Day-1: Fly to Cochin and travel to Kumarakom Lake Resort. Enjoy the lush green backwaters
of Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary.
Day-2: At Kumarakom.
Day-3: Drive back to Cochin via the churches of Kottayam, the superb Ettumanoor and Vaikom Temples, and the museums of Ernakulam.
Stay at the Brunton Boatyard. This is a `boutique hotel' designed to a theme focussed on the history of Kochi with large luxurious rooms and a superb waterfront location.
Day-4: See historic Fort Kochi with its Jew monuments, churches and palace museum. Depart after lunch for Kozhikode and stay at a heritage hotel, a beautiful wooden house run the Nair family that has owned it for about a century. See the Beypore boatyard where dhows called urus are hand-built and the old Moplah quarters with their medieval Malabari Muslim mosques.
Day-5: Ascend the hills to Wayanad and stay at a good hotel/resort. This is a less visited district of Kerala and one of its most forested and beautiful, with sanctuaries where elephants, bison, deer, birdlife are abundant, and there are many waterfalls, coffee estates, tea plantations, tribal hamlets, and caves with prehistoric paintings.
Day-6: Drives in Wayanad.
Day-7: Proceed to Tellicherry and stay at the Ayisha Manzil, a 125-year old palatial mansion owned and run as a heritage hotel by the Moosas, a prominent Moplah family of Kerala. Witness a temple dance performance at the Parsinudakevu temple and watch weavers at work at Kanjirode, one of the largest silk and cotton weaving cooperatives in Kerala.
Day -8: Drive to Coorg and stay at the Orange County, a beautiful resort set among coffee estates with cottages amid fruit orchards. It has wide-ranging recreational facilities.
Day-9: Day visit to Bylakuple, one of the largest Tibetan Buddhist settlements in India, and visit the aweinspiring golden temple and the monasteries. Return to Orange County.
Day-10: Drive to Hoysala Village Resort near Hassan. See the mind-blowing temples of Halebid and Belur, with some of the finest carvings in Karnataka.
